The Celtic Peoples (or Aryans or Gauls) are the peoples who inhabited Europe several millennia before Christ, likely originating from the Central Asian regions around the Pamirs. The main historical information on Celtic traditions and medicine comes from the research of authors such as Pliny the Elder, one of the greatest scholars of ancient Rome, both of nature and of various peoples. The Celtic peoples, beyond their differences in relation to their different origins and ethnicities, were characterized by a magical perception of the world, whereby every physical reality was perceived as a manifestation of the Spirit. The Celts' philosophy was therefore a radical affirmation of the immanence of Divinity in Nature, and their medicine reflected this spiritual perception of reality. It would therefore be impossible to understand Celtic medicine without Celtic philosophy—that is, without their magical perception and conception of the world, which rejected any opposition between Heaven and Earth, and therefore any antithesis between the spiritual and material worlds. The sacredness of Nature was therefore the main characteristic of Celtic wisdom.
